Shots

By the way, poor Speedy has to get shots first thing Monday morning. I'm not looking forward to this at all - I really don't understand how we're going to keep him still while they stick a needle in him. :( I'm very sad about this. Toolman took off of work to help me. At first, I was going to send him and Speedy by themselves but then I felt guilty about not being there for Speedy.

Honestly, he'd probably do better without me there. I'll be more nervous than he is because I will know what is coming. And I can see his face already - that open-mouthed, crocodile tear, screaming cry he has when he is really upset. It's going to break my heart. And he will get WHATEVER he wants afterwards. And maybe I will, too. ha ha ha

Shots are the hardst thing to get through at the doctor’s office. I agree with that hands down. They have all these pills and patches for everything now a days, why can’t they put vaccinations in those so that us parents arent torchured with our kids being stabbed every so often? ;-)

They are the worst! I was fortunate to have a nurse that was extremely quick, and she would have my sons legs bent over the edge of the table and rest her stomach over his shins and then stab both legs at the same time, very very cruel, but it got it done with very quickly! I always had a sucker in hand, opened and waiting. I think it is worse now that he is older - he knows too much!

Shots are bad, but I think we make them worse by being so upset before they even happen. I walk my kids through the doctor’s visit before we get there so we can talk about the shots. I still get tears, but the crying is over really quickly. It’s just like when they fall down. If you look like they should have gotten hurt, they will act like they have been. That said, I agree with treats after shots. It makes everyone feel better.

I like the idea of treats for the parents too! Our first shots with Cookie, we also had to go get a blood draw for her Hep C test - excruciating!! Michael said her little head turned the color of a tomato! We have her 4 month-old shots on Friday, so I’m right there, too. Even though she is too little for “treats”, I think at least mommy and daddy should get ice cream. :)

From a young child’s perspective, getting a shot must be really weird!
