A while back I went shopping with my friend Laura to buy a dress for a wedding. (not her wedding) As it turns out, we wear the same size – which I think is wierd because we’re not the same heigth or anything. But that’s beside the point. Anyway, so I go with her to find this dress and we find a beautiful black clingy dress.
I don’t normally use the word ‘clingy’ in a good sense – but this dress is definitely an exception. I can’t explain it – but it hides all the things you don’t want people to see. Come on ladies, you know what parts I’m talking about….bumps and lumps in places where they shouldn’t be.
So I told her that I really like “our” dress and can’t wait to wear it.
Right about now I’m wondering why I’m writing about a dress and maybe you are to. I hope you aren’t waiting for some inspiring spiritual parable about a dress because it ain’t comin’. On second thought, maybe it is. Well, not earth shattering but I am the queen of the obvious so… we’ll see.
Back to the dress. Laura looked smokin’ hot in the dress and we agreed she had to wear it. It’s the old lady’s version of “that little black dress” every woman should have hanging in her closet. Wait. I did not just refer to Laura as a little old lady. Laura, if you are even still reading at this point – bare with me. I mean, face it. I am not young enough to wear the quintessential “little black dress” that bares enough leg to be just shy of skanky.
So the dress. I’m making it out to be more than it really is. Except it really IS. I have a party to go to this Saturday and the attire is “Semi-formal”. (What exactly does that mean, anyway?) So I borrowed the dress. And it fits. And I look smokin’ hot in it.
It’s just odd to me how two people can be shaped differently and still fit perfectly in the same outfit. It’s a lot like God. (guess there was a connection afterall) Each of us is different in personality, style, body size and shape… we all have our own uniqueness with different talents and interests. Different problems and different solutions. God’s Grace is “one size fits all”. He’s a perfect fit for the girl with a broken heart and the mother who just lost her son. For the stay at home mom busy with three kids and the church worker who is the victim of malicious gossip. For the man whose wife just left him and the kids who don’t understand why mommy walked away. For the boy who struggles to fit in and the one who was voted “most popular”. For the college student searching for herself and the woman who has it all. Because He is our Creator, God’s love is like the comfy pair of jeans that fit just right. All we have to do is try Him on.
