Gawd Says

Posted: September 25, 2009 at 8:48 pm

Gracey started attending preschool “children’s church” this year when she advanced from nursery to Sunday School. I have the joy of watching her as I volunteer with a Kindergarten class and she is a hoot! Her behavior reminds me a lot of Carter when he started children’s church but somehow for a little girl people seem to react more with laughter than frustration. Here’s hoping it is just a phase?

Although completely incapable of sitting still for more than a minute, Gracey hears everything and takes it all to heart. After just one Sunday, she insisted on taking her Bible to church because all the kids who take it with them get recognized. (she also raises her hand EVERY week, claiming to be a visitor so she can get a sticker)

Gracey’s Teacher: Gracey, put your hand down, sweetie, you aren’t a visitor
Gracey: but I’m just pretending!!!

Lately, she insists on taking her Bible everywhere which I think is adorable. After this morning I’m afraid she may soon cross a line:

Gracey: Mom, I’m going to take my Bible with me to Wal Mart
Me: No, honey. Leave it here so it doesn’t get lost and you can read it when we get back
Gracey: But, MOOOOOMMMM!!! I need to read about Gawwwd
Me: (laughing) okay, but you have to keep up with it so it doesn’t get lost, that is God’s special letter to you.
Gracey: Okay.

We walked out the back door and saw that our dog Duke had gotten out and was waiting to come back into the backyard.

Me: DUKE! Where are you getting out? arrrghhh
Gracey: (opening her Bible and pointing to the words) DUKE! Gawwd says right in the Bible that you should not get out of the backyard!

I almost peed my pants.

Good Morning, Star

Posted: September 10, 2009 at 11:53 am

This morning in the Ebenezer house:

Gracey: Mommy, it’s still dark outside
Me: yes, it’s early, Gracey
Gracey: ooooooh! I bet that star is awake, can we go see it?
Me: okay, let’s go
Gracey: (pointing to the one little star visible through the clouds) MOM!!! LOOK!!!! THERE’S MY STAR! Good morning, star!
Me: (pointing to the moon) Gracey, look who else is awake
Gracey: MY MOON!!! Good morning, moon. He’s awake in the night!
Me: okay, it’s time to go back inside
Gracey: Goodbye star. Goodbye moon.

I love her enthusiasm for life and her pleasure in the little things. She’s 3 1/2 now and I know the magic in her perception of things will slowly fade away over the next few years. I wish we could capture that innocence and unwavering faith in the impossible and carry it with us into adulthood.

I started my morning with a 2 mile run at 5:30am. It’s a great start to my day when I’m able to drag my behind out of bed! Saturday will be my longest run ever: 5 miles! Slowly building up to be ready for the 13.1 mile half marathon in January. Sometimes I still can’t believe that I am even able to run. I often pick up a pair of pants at the store and think “oh, there is no way these are the right size… they are much to small in the waist” only to discover that they are my size and sometimes even a size bigger. :)

I’m minus 80lbs from last November. I’d really like to hit 100 before this November but I don’t know how likely that is. Especially since I’ve been stuck at 80 for the last 2 months or so. This last wall I have to push through is brutal! I only need 20 more pounds. Just 20!!!! Oh well, I’m sure as I continue to run the pounds will continue to come off slowly.

Brownies Anyone?

Posted: July 27, 2008 at 10:44 pm

In the process of potty triaing Gracey. Actually, she is in the process of training herself. We remind her about every hour or so to pee on the potty and she does very well most days.

She and Carter were playing in the playroom and they both come running into the den. Gracey Shouting, POOPY!

Carter: I just saw the biggest turd in Gracey’s diaper
Gracey: (holding the front on her diaper down enough so we can also see the biggest turd) BROWNIE! Brownie in dere! ooooh! Brownie in my diaper!

Gross.

On the road once more

Posted: July 24, 2008 at 2:32 pm

We are taking our first trip as a family of five. Drivining for about 2 1/2 hours to visit with friends and pay our respects to a wonderful man who touched my heart throughout my childhood. He was a father figure and I can remember him picking me up to be his “helper” at a church Day CAmp when I was too young to be a counselor and too old to be a camper. He was the kindest man I’ve ever known.

I can see him, with his rosy red cheeks and big smile, sitting at the feet of Jesus and hanging on every word.

I’m looking forward to seeing a lot of people I haven’t seen in a long time – though I wish it were under different circumstances.

And I have to tell you, traveling with a family of five is quite an adventure. First off, who REALLY wants FIVE extra people sleeping in their house? Especially when 3 of those 5 are under the age of 5. :D So finding a place to stay if you don’t want to get a hotel room is challenging. Luckily, I have a great friend who still has young children who is taking us in for the night. Carter will get to spend the night with my sister and his favorite cousin – which he is VERY excited about. I think he is most excited to get them all to himself.

It’s going to be a long ride – it already is. We’ve been driving for an hour and although Carter and Gracey are watching the DVD player, Carter feels it necessary to act as commentator for us since we can’t see the screen. It’s not annoying at all. Really.

Sigh.

I love you

Posted: July 23, 2008 at 9:05 pm

I always love it when Gracey spontaneously tells me she loves me. When she says, “I uv you. Awwww, I us you so much so much.”

It makes me feel like a good mommy.

and if she occasionally tells bugs and birds she loves them, too, well, I don’t mind. Because she is very fond of these things. It doesn’t take away what it means when she tells me she loves me.

But there is a line.

We just flushed her poop down the potty, the whole time she is waving and saying, “I uv you, poopy. awwww. I uv you. Poopy so sweet. Bye Bye. I uv you, poopy.”

She loves mommy and she loves poopy.

Hmmm. Not sure what to make of that.

monster

Posted: July 22, 2008 at 12:53 pm

We have created a little monster! Gracey just loves to stick her finger out and tell you what’s what. She wears her dress up shoes constantly and simply must have her sunglasses on at the same too.

Mathew meets his brother and sister

Posted: June 23, 2008 at 9:28 pm

I’m sitting here with Mathew all cuddle on my chest with one of these wrap things. I just love it and so does he. It really snuggles him in close and right now, his favorite place to be is on mommy’s chest. (he’d probably really be happy on anyone’s chest, but i prefer to think it is just me!)

So when we came home on Friday, Carter and Gracey were very excited to meet Mathew. I put him on the floor and they crowded around him and loved on him. Gracey layed her head on his little chest and said, “I uv you, Mathew.” She says that a lot these days. Carter’s whole face lit up an he wanted to hold him and love on him, too. They both adore baby Mathew right now and are eager to feed him and take good care of him.

This morning, I was getting princess dressed and noticed Mathew was spitting up. Carter got the burp cloth and went to wipe his face and then gave him his pappy. He stood by to wait for him to spit up again and repeated the process. It was quite sweet. When Gracey was all dressed, she had to have her turn with the burp cloth, too, and even held his bottle for about half of a feeding this afternoon.

All is well in the Ebenezer household. We are getting along just fine and the big kids are adjusting. Mommy gets a little tired in the afternoon but still manages to have patience when the big kids need attention. We couldn’t be any happier.

tomorrow morning, while Carter is at Music Camp, Gracey has a little playdate with a good friend of ours. The girls will play and the mommies will visit. Life is good. Life is very, very good.

Table for FIVE

Posted: June 23, 2008 at 1:51 am

We brought Mathew to church this morning and then we all went out for lunch afterwards. It was uneventful for the most part. I enjoyed showing him off to friends and also enjoyed just being out as a family of five.

Carter and Gracey continue to adore baby Mathew and love to hold him, feed him and pet him. Yes, I did say “pet” him. They like to rub his head. Go figure. In fact, this morning SPeedy said, “mommy, he’s like a little puppy.” LOL I’m sure Mathew appreciates being called a little puppy. Here’s hoping Carter doesn’t decide to play veterinarian. :D

Carter has music camp every morning this week and Gracey goes on Thursday and Friday. SO it looks like we’ll just hit the ground running this week. ha ha ha

So much more to say but I have to sleep when i can these days.

Thank you, Jesus.
